Storm Water Utility Fees
The City of North Myrtle Beach established a storm water utility fee to fund improvements needed in our storm drainage system. All funds are used for capital improvements in the storm drainage system, with approximately 60% allocated to the beach outfall program and 40% allocated for implementation of storm water master plan projects. These fees are included on the utility bill for all developed properties within the city and are determined as follows:

Property Type
Residential Property
Citywide, a single-family residential lot averages 8,700 square feet in size and is 40% impervious (rooftop, driveway, patio, etc). Thus, an Equivalent Runoff Unit, or ERU, was established at $6 per month per 3,500 square feet of impervious area. The fee for single-family residential properties was established at $6 per month.
Commercial Property
The storm water utility fee for commercial property is calculated by measuring each property to determine the impervious area, which is calculated as a multiple of the standard residential equivalent runoff unit (ERU = 3,500 square feet). The result is multiplied by $6 per month. Credit is allowed for properties with on-site storm water retention facilities.
