The North Myrtle Beach Police Department is committed to recruiting, assessing, and hiring the best suited and qualified applicants to meet the needs of the North Myrtle Beach community and the NMBPD.
If you are at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED, you may already meet the minimum requirements to be a police officer. No experience is necessary, but our standards are high.
Minimum Standards to Become an Officer
- At least 21 years of age
- United States Citizen
- You must have a valid South Carolina Driver's License or a valid Driver's License from your current State
- High School Diploma or GED
- Have not committed or been convicted of a felony
- Convicted of any crime punishable by imprisonment in a federal or a state prison
- Have an Honorable Military Discharge; General and Un-characterized Discharges are evaluated on a case by case basis
- 20/20 vision OR no more than 20/200 corrected to 20/100 or below
- Driving record should be clear of any suspension during the last 5 years as a result of driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages or dangerous drugs, reckless homicide, or leaving the scene of an accident. The overall driving record will be evaluated placing emphasis on the severity, date and age, time span, and number of violations accumulated.
- Favorable Credit Report
- Pass an entry level written examination
- Pass an entry level physical ability test
- Pass an extensive background investigation including psychological examination
- Pass a pre-employment Medical Examination and Drug Screening Test. (Certain past drug use will result in disqualification. Marijuana usage in the last 2 years or usage of Schedule I drugs or cocaine within the past 10 years will result in an automatic disqualification.)
The North Myrtle Beach Police Department requires that all sworn officers reside within Horry County.
